Last Eurosunday of the Year

Apologies for not updating much in the past few months, but I have been very distracted with schoolwork. It’s that time of year again, time for Eurovision reselection shows and internal selection announcements!

Two songs have been revealed so far, but not in their final versions. Today Albania chose “Nuk mundem pa ty,” a nice electro pop song that isn’t amazing but has potential in its inevitable reworking. I wish I could say the same for the Dutch song, “Ik ben verliefd (sha-la-lie).” It sounds completely dated and will continue to be that way unless rearranged in a completely unexpected style.

Malta has had three semifinals already, and the third one was the first live show of the year that I watched. I really like the songs in that semifinal, except for “Choices.” It’s hard to pick a winner so far, because the live versions done in the small television studio for these broadcasts don’t sound much like the studio recordings or live Eurovision versions.

Finland’s web selection a few weeks ago was disappointing, as “Ei minua,” the best song in that selection, was eliminated. My favorite out of the finalists is “Love at the first sight,” with “Anastacia” as a second.

Belarus, Poland, Slovakia all had some of their songs leak and I haven’t listened to them all, but I do like “Jak ptak” from Poland.

Next week there’s only one live show: Malta’s 4th semifinal. To make up for the lack of live show info I’ll give some opinions on the other songs that have leaked that I haven’t discussed yet.

Happy New Year, and here’s to a great Eurovision season!
