Asia's Living A Celebration
This exciting news made me return from my blogging hiatus: Asiavision Song Contest announced!
"The annual song contest is planned to be a six-month regional and national tournament culminating in the Grand Final. The song contest will be distributed in the following countries: China, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam." - Eurovision.tv
Watching the Olympics last month got me excited again for international friendly competition (well, hopefully friendly) and made me realize that it's one of the reasons I like Eurovision (well, that and the music, of course). I'm really hoping that this actually happens, as it should be really fun to follow. As of the current "mid-2009" date, it looks like it could overlap with Eurovision season but that doesn't seem like a problem if it happens. The only real disadvantage I see for my viewing is the time zone problem - it was difficult enough watching live footage of the Olympics at odd hours, and depending on where the first contest is hosted I may have to wake up very early on Saturday mornings. However, this is probably very good for Australian fans who have to wake up at similarly odd hours to watch original flavor Eurovision.
I have about as high hopes for the quality of the songs in this as I do for Eurovision: the national finals will be mostly trash but the songs for the final will be mostly decent. Don't disappoint me now, Asia!
